People are Now Getting Ketamine Injections Mailed to Their Homes

There was already concern about the at-home ketamine lozenge model

By Mattha Busby

At-home ketamine therapy burst into healthcare through a legal loophole during the pandemic due to the temporary relaxation of telehealth regulations for controlled drugs. Lozenges infused with high doses of the dissociative drug were soon being mailed to thousands of people with mental health issues across the US, and the telehealth rule change was never reversed. Now, a company is sending injectable ketamine to the homes of clients, since some do not absorb the drug well orally.

Ketamine has been talked about more than ever after Friends actor Matthew Perry illegally obtained it and drowned in his hot tub. Meanwhile, companies are developing slower-release ‘Special K’ drugs that could act like daily antidepressants, and Johnson & Johnson’s ketamine-based Spravato spray will soon become the first billion-dollar psychedelic medicine. Welcome to the weird, wonderful, and scary, above-board ketaverse.
